2021.11.29 23:40 teddywarner UPDI Serial Programmer

Hello! Just finished up a hardware UPDI serial programmer board, the ftdi2updi! The board is my take on the required rewiring between serial UPDI programming and serial monitoring, it offers a physical switch between the two functions, streamlining the UPDI programming and Serial Monitoring processes on one board. The programmer runs alongside the megaTinyCore library, and all Gerber and eagle files are included in the project repo, linked at the bottom of the page below.
Check out the project! :) -
The page documents the megaTinyCore library, its installation process, jtag2udpi and serial updi programming styles, along with two iterations programmer of a hardware UPDi serial programmer.

2021.11.29 23:40 spellbreakerstudios What happens to your collection when you die?

I was thinking the other day, now that the hobby is several decades old, a lot of hobbyists are in their 40s, 50s or 60s.
I was thinking about my own estate planning the other day and happened to glance at all of these models and asked myself what I’d want to happen with them. Hopefully I’ve got many more decades ahead (and many more models).
Would you leave instructions to sell off? Donate to younger hobbyists while you’re alive to enjoy it? Local gaming club?
Is this a totally dumb question or has anyone ever thought about it?
You used to see people with huge model train setups and it always seemed like such a shame when someone passes and the diorama gets tossed.

2021.11.29 23:40 ScantlyChad [DIPLOMACY] Palio

Summer 1493 Six horsemen dressed up in flamboyant uniforms of bright city colors and banners galloped down the narrow streets of Rome. Below them, an ancient layer of Roman pavement ready to bloody up any horse and rider who had the misfortune of losing their balance. Surrounding them on both sides was the roaring, baying, jeering crowd of Italians of all classes: Roman peasants, Florentine merchants, Mantovano nobles, Sienese politicians; all had come to Rome to cheer on their rider and his horse in the famous Palio.
As the road narrowed, the horses drew closer and closer together, forcing a confrontation between the jockeys. Each man tugged at the reins of his horse with one hand while shoving and punching his human rivals (and even their horses!) with the other. A fist found a face, and for a brief moment too long, the hometown jockey from Rome was distracted by his bloodied nose. He short rider failed to steer properly and soon found himself throw from the saddle as he and his horse tumbled down onto the cobbles, and into a painful last place.
His nose was full of blood, but he could still smell the ham.
The remaining five rounded the final corner, with one horseman of red and white now pulling ahead. It was the jockey known as Bartolomeo de' Barbari, rider representing Mantua!
"Tucho! Tucho! Tucho! Tucho!"
The screaming crowds now chanted the battle cry of Mantua, il Turcho, as the horse and rider representing the proud Lombard city galloped past their Piedmontese, Veronese, and Genovese rivals. Barbari tugged and prodded at his horse as hard as he could manage as the poor, exhausted beast extended the lead, crossing the finish line a good seven seconds before the others could. The crowd roared to life in celebration of the victorious Mantovano team, with even the patron of the team, Marquess Francesco II, joining in on the peasants' chants.
"Tucho! Tucho! Tucho! Tucho!"
But the glorious moment was short lived. Francesco was scarcely able to make his way through the crowd to congratulate his jockey when a rough pair of hands grabbed him on the shoulders and pulled him back.
"You dirty cheat!" Screamed a rough voice behind him.
Francesco wheeled around to break his captor's grip and placed a hand on his belt, ready to draw his dagger to defend himself from this angry assailant. As he turned to face his accuser, he was greeted with a faceful of spittle and series of insults.
The source of rage was Cesare Borgia, son of the Pope, and rival of Francesco II. Despite being ten years younger and a new arrival to Italy, the young Catalan man had managed to nearly meet Francesco in size, strength, and status, which the proud Italian didn't like one bit. And now his honorable victory was being tarnished by accusations of cheating by the dirtiest cheater in all of Italy? It was too much for Francesco, who lost his temper and responded with his own series of insults.
The frenzied crowd now also turned its attention to the two fighting men, each now joined by their followers in delivering verbal and physical blows to their rivals. Cesare ironically accused Francesco's victory of being illegitimate, whilst Francesco called for the race officials to hand the baffa around Cesare's neck. The entire scene was chaos, it was a disaster, and it was pure Palio.
February 1504 Francesco remembered his Palio days fondly now as he trotted his horse through his own city at a safe pace. It had been years since he managed to attend and even win one, as wars caused by foreign invaders on the peninsula tended to have a negative effect on the Italians and their events. And as much as he loved them, damn the wars! If Francesco II couldn't attend a Palio hosted by one of his neighbors, he would host one in Mantua!
To host such an event as a Palio, a race filled with tradition, was no simple task for the organizer or for his treasury. To start, a racetrack would need to be properly formed within the streets of the island city. In order to ensure an unscathed and unobstructed race and a fair competition, all obstacles such as benches, porches, barrels, and rubbish heaps would need to be cleared from the streets. Bridges would need to be inspected, and if possible, repaired and stocked with professional fisherman tasked with rescuing horses or jockeys who fell into the waters. The *magnifici palchetti, or the great mess of wooden stands, platforms, and viewpoints to be set up all along the racetrack would also be needed to be constructed, in order to give the great crowds that would flock to this race a proper viewing.
And of course, who could forget the arrangements for the most important of them all, the horses? Not Francesco, that's who! In a great display of shrewdness and wisdom, Francesco had previously ordered his stables to be improved and repaired, in order to fix them up for his great herd of imported and bred horses of North African and Turkish origins. These beasts would be raced by tiny-figured jockeys with striking names such as Spera in dio – "he places his hope in God", Ha paura di esser l’ultimo – "he is afraid to be last", Porta el palio a casa – "he takes the palio home", names that would be chanted and cheered in the packed streets of Mantua.
And also came the prizes: great banners of the finest of silks and stitching would be wrapped around the winner along with a great manner of bonuses that were awarded to the winner from their prestigious patrons. The banner was wrapped around the neck of the winning horse, while the last place horse (and sometimes, if the race organizers were feeling particularly mean, the jockey) would have their neck wrapped with a rope, and on that rope, baffa, a piece of ham which the crowd was allowed to eat. To have one's team win a palio was a great event indeed, but to win multiple times as Francesco had was a matter of bragging, which he often did and would continue to do. His palio in particular would also feature a display in the center of the city in order to properly showcase all of the previously won banners from the races of the past.
And lastly the invitations. All the great men of Northern Italy would be invited to this palio, even Cesare Borgia, Francesco's former rival who he had managed to make amends with. It was at this palio that he and Borgia would make a very special announcement.
In order to pay for this great event and all other minor footraces, dog races, wrestling matches, and other contests of strength that shall be held as entertainment in the days leading up to the races, Francesco's party fund of 50,000 florins would be entirely drained in order to transform his small city into a proper racetrack in the coming summer months.

2021.11.29 23:40 thevastminority Good place to look for 1 month (ish) sublet?

I'll be visiting for a month in January sometime, I work from my laptop and need a break from the Canadian winter haha.
Ideally I'd like to stay somewhere around the Romantic Zone/Versalles/5 de diciembre for like 5-650 CAD.
I'm thinking that should get me either a room in a house with roommates, or a studio.
I'm having a hard time figuring out how to rent a spot like this- have you had any luck in Facebook groups or reputable websites?
Much appreciated!
